The Department of Chemical Oceanography has credentials of facilities and rich expertise in teaching / research on various chemical aspects of the aquatic system. It has pioneered investigations in many an area of vital significance and has contributed valuable inputs into the national database. Chemical Oceanography (Marine Chemistry) is the fulcrum for interaction between the various disciplines of Marine Sciences. Two members of the faculty carried out post-doctoral research in the U.K. through the award of Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowships. Sophisticated instrumental facilities available in the Department include UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, AAS, GC, CHN, Polarographic Analyzer, Laminar Flow Chambers, etc. During the past three years, ten students were successfully guided for their doctoral degrees and about 60 research papers were published. The job profile of the alumni is : Teaching - 36%, Research - 51%, Abroad - 7% and Others - 4%.
